Swedbank is a modern, full-service bank with 7,3 million private customers and 618,000 corporate customers.

Background

Microsoft officially announced the removal of support for Visual Basics 6 (VB6) in 2014. Then, Swedbank made the decision to migrate its applications run on VB6 to Visual Basic .Net.

Challenge

Swedbank didn’t have the resources to perform technological work internally. So, it became natural to look for an external partner.  Thanks to previous experience in migration projects, well-developed methodologies, and excellent references from customers and Microsoft, Euvic was chosen as the best support in such a challenge. Swedbank had three key applications to migrate with a total of 626,000 different application codes.

Results

Swedbank conducted a security audit of the environment where the migration and maintenance work was carried out. Euvic met all security requirements, including the physical security aspects (related to access to the database) and the software environment security (where the project was implemented). The Euvic team consisted of six specialists – a project manager, four developers, and a tester. The team worked in line with the Scrum framework, together with the Swedbank staff. Thanks to the migration from VB6 to Visual Basic .Net, Swedbank maintains modern technology in its core applications. The collaboration with Euvic resulted in going from 150 to 40 man-hours in the maintenance of the applications in Swedbank.
